ICMG26 – The 16th International Conference on Military Geosciences, US Military Academy.

Hosted at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, USA, 7–12 June 2026 | Eisenhower Hall Theatre, West Point
Post-Conference Battlefield Tour: 12–17 June 2026

The International Association of Military Geosciences invites researchers, practitioners, and students to share your research, practice, and experience in military geoscience at the 16th International Conference on Military Geosciences (ICMG26) hosted by the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at the United States Military Academy.

Theme: Theory and practice – the past and future of military geoscience in a complex world

This theme invites participants to reflect on the evolving relationship between geoscientific knowledge and military application—bridging historical foundations with forward-looking innovations. Covering a broad and increasingly inclusive array of military-related topics, ICMG26 will explore how military geoscience continues to inform both students and practitioners of war and its related activities.

What to Expect at ICMG26

  • Two keynote lectures from internationally recognized military practitioners and geoscience experts.
  • Scholarly presentations from leading academics, military professionals, and practitioners.
  • Two guided field trips: one to explore the historical fortifications and battlefields of the Fortress West Point landscape, and a second to the megacity of Manhattan to explore both the historical and contemporary complexities of military operations in urban terrain.
  • Social events, including a welcome reception and conference banquet.
  • Daily lunches and coffee breaks included.

Schedule of Events

  • Sunday, 7 June: Arrival and registration.
  • Monday, 8 June: Paper sessions – Keynote address, the theories underlying military geoscience.
  • Tuesday, 9 June: Field Day – Fort Montgomery & Stony Point battlefields, West Point fortifications.
  • Wednesday, 10 June: Paper sessions – Military geoscience in urban and subterranean environments.
  • Thursday, 11 June: Field Day – Manhattan: urban, sub-terranean, and historical military environments.
  • Friday, 12 June: Paper session (half day) – Military geoscience, theory and great power competition.

Post-Conference Battlefield Tour (12–17 June 2026)

Join a five-day historical and geoscientific journey through the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys, rich in strategic military history. Sites will include pivotal Revolutionary War battlefields, early American forts, key transportation corridors, and dramatic landscapes that shaped military operations across both the Seven Years War (French and Indian War) and the American Revolution.
