www.dri.edu/icmg22. Please indicate if you plan on giving an oral presentation or poster, and if you intend to submit as a paper for publication in a military geoscience volume.

Registration is Still Open!

General registration is $450 USD. Registration information can be found atwww.dri.edu/icmg22

Registration will include the following:
• Reception on Sunday evening at the Francis Marion Hotel​
• Coffee, tea, soft drinks, juice, water, fruit, and baked goods during oral/poster sessions​
• Lunches Monday through Friday​
• Dinners on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday​
• Transportation to field trips on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday​
• All fees for field trip destinations​
• Abstract volume​
• Conference T-shirt

Conference Lodging: A block of rooms are reserved at the Francis Marion Hotel, starting at $189 USD/night (rate is the lowest in the area). Reservations are limited, so make your reservations by MAY 20, 2022.  Booking information can be found on our website:

Accompanying Partner’s Conference Options

Conference activities will include multiple options (meals, field trips) for accompanying partners. Options (listed below) will include choice of meals and conference field trips (transportation, fees, meals).  Accompanying partners may also take part in the post-conference excursion  with excursion rates for two people per room (see Excursion Agenda below).  Conference options (can be selected by choice) and have been added to the Registration Page. 

Options include:​
• Monday (6/20) – Dinner: Francis Marion Hotel ($45)​
• Tuesday (6/21) – PM field trip to Sullivan’s Island along with box lunch and dinner ($62)​
• Wednesday (6/22) – All Day Field Trip:  Fort Sumter, the USS Yorktown and lunch ($103)​
• Thursday (6/23) – PM field Trip to James Island with box lunch and dinner ($58)

Conference Agenda

Sunday (6/19)– Reception (1800 – 2000). Francis Marion Hotel.​ Oral and Poster Sessions will be held at the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences, College of Charleston.​

Monday (6/20) – AM-PM Oral Sessions (0800  – 1700). Box lunch on-site. Dinner will be provided at the Francis Marion Hotel restaurant.

Tuesday (6/21) – AM Oral Sessions (0800  –  1200).  PM field trip to Sullivan’s Island along with a box lunch.  Dinner provided at the Acme Lowcountry Kitchen, Isle of Palms.

Wednesday (6/22) – All Day Field Trip (0730  –1700).  AM Trip to Fort Sumter.  Lunch will be provided at the Charleston Harbor Fish House at Patriots Point.  PM field trip to the USS Yorktown.  Dinner will be on your own (many excellent eateries near Hotel).

Thursday (6/23) – AM Oral Sessions (0800 – 1200).  PM field trip to James Island, the site of Battery Wagner, and observation of example coastal erosion.  Box lunch provided. Dinner provided at Holy City Brewing.

Friday (6/24) – AM Oral Sessions (~0800  – 1200). Box-lunch on site. PM (~1230 – 1430) IAMG Business Meeting including selection of the location for the next ICMG.

Post Conference Field Trip: Departs The Francis Marion at ~1330​.

Presentations

Oral Presentations:  We anticipate presentations will be at least 20 minutes (15-minute presentation, 5 minutes for questions) . The final presentation lengths will be finalized in the final version of the Conference Agenda.​

Poster Presentations: Posters will be on display during the entire conference.  Poster presentation times will coincide with AM and PM coffee/tea sessions.​

Publication of Conference Papers:  We anticipate proceeding with two conference volumes through the Springer series on ‘Advances on Military Geosciences’ and a Geological Society of America Special Paper on Military Geosciences.  All papers will be peer-reviewed (by at least two reviewers).  Papers must be submitted by December 15, 2022 to receive full consideration for publication.​​

Post-Conference Excursion

The theme of the tour will be military history and coastal environments. The excursion will start in Charleston after the end of the ICMG, Friday June 24 and end in Alexandria, VA evening on Tuesday June 28.  An informal/optional trip is being arranged to the Manassas National Battlefield Park and the  Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, National Air and Space Museum, Chantilly, VA.  Costs (lunch, entrance fees) are not included for this optional day, but transportation will be provided.​ Alexandria in near three regional airports: Regional Airports include: Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA, ~20-minute drive) Dulles International Airport (IAD, ~45-minute drive) 

Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI, ~60-minute drive)

Total cost for the post-conference field trip is $1,632 USD per person, one per room, and $1,244 USD per person: two people per room. Cost includes: lodging, all meals, ground transportation, and venue tickets.  No costs for the optional trip on Wednesday and all participants will be responsible for their own entrance fess, meals, etc., but a van will be available for transportation. 

Note: Please let us know as soon as possible if you plan on attending the excursion.  Lodging along the east coast U.S. is filling up fast.  Cut-off date to register for the excursionis June 1, 2022.

Excursion costs will include the following:
• 4 Lunches: June 25-28​
• 5 Dinners: June 24-28​
• 5 Nights lodging: June 24-28​
• Transportation from Charleston to Alexandria​
• All entrance and tour fees for field trip destinations

Friday (6/24)  – PM (1330) Depart Charleston and travel to Convoy (SC).  Convoy: TBD. Dinner: Pier 14 Seafood Restaurant, Myrtle Beach (1930) 

Saturday (6/25) – AM:  Depart hotel (0900) and travel to Fort Fisher State Historic Site (NC) via the Southport – Fort Fisher Ferry. Box Lunch: Fort Fisher Recreation Area.  PM (1330-1700) Tour the Fort Fisher State Historic Site.  Lodging:  Holiday Inn Express Leland.  Dinner (1930-2100):  Marina Grill

Sunday (6/26) – AM:  Depart hotel (0800), visit/tour the WII Battleship North Carolina (0830-1200).  Lunch (1230-1345): Oceanic Crystal Pier (Wrightsville Beach).  PM: Bentonville Battlefield Site (NC), road tour of parts of the Battlefield (1500-1700).  Lodging: Roanoke Rapids: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Roanoke Rapids.  Dinner: Billikens Smokehouse (2000-2130).​

Monday (6/27) – AM:  Depart hotel (0745), tour of the Petersburg National Battlefield (0830-1030).  Lunch (1130-1300): Chowning’s Cider Tavern, Colonial Williamsburg (VA).  PM: Tour of the Yorktown Battlefield (1330-1730). Lodging: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Fredericksburg.  Dinner: Billikens Smokehouse (1930-2100).​

Tuesday (6/28) – AM:  Depart hotel (0800), tour of the Fredericksburg Battlefield (0815-1145).  Lunch (1200-1315): Brookside Grill, Fredericksburg.  PM: National Museum of the US Army (1415-1700). Lodging: Hilton Garden Inn, Alexandria Old Town.  Dinner: Hanks Oyster Bar in Old Town (1830-2000).​

Wednesday (Optional)  (6/29) – AM:  Depart hotel (0800), Manassas National Battlefield (0900-1145).  Lunch (1200-1300): Odd BBQ, Chantilly, VA.  PM: The National Air and Space Museum The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, (1400-1730). Lodging: Hilton Garden Inn, Alexandria Old Town.  Dinner: The Wharf, Alexandria Old Town (1830-2000).
